I had a great experience with Diesel care. I was on the way to Cape York and the injector pump went on my 4WD. The team worked extremely hard (overtime) to not only get the part in but replaced within a very short time. Knowledgeable, professional and went over and beyond to get me back on the road to meet the family. If your diesel needs attention - this is the place to take it!

As I have said to GDS the standard of mechanical work is very good but after cross checking some of the verbally quoted prices of their parts I was sure theywere charging me markup on retail cost not mark up on wholesale. Also at the end of the day they spent in excess of 60 manhours to do the work , given the access restriction to review works progress I consider the number of hours charged to be very dubious.

Travelling from Adelaide to Sunny coast and had to make an emergency stop with my transmission slipping and an error code advising my torque converter was not working. With some help from Gunnedah Diesel they quickly isolated the issue to a faulty battery and had me on my way. Was very grateful for the help and service and would recommend them and the workshop facilities.

In short by the MTA member ethics requirements GDS are required to suppy a written quote before commencing any work which was not the case in my situation.

    • Cost Calculation: Alan offers the option to pay for only the work performed by the hour, instead a quoting up-front also for all unknowns.

We have had our cars to Gunnedah diesel service a few times and have been amazed of the knowledge and experience Allen has,he is a very honest and reliable man, we have had our car to other mechanics and were not happy with the services or the price.we will travel to Gunnedah all the time to have our car services or repaired, knowing we are not going to be ripped off,his prices are a lot cheaper than anywhere else,he will supply a document of what he has done to your vehicle, and show you the broken part, that is because of his honesty, and also his beautiful wife looks after you as if you are one of her family, when you leave there you feel like you are. After all is said and done I highly recommend them.P.S.. They love home made vanilla slices

I strongly advise if GDS are not willing to provide you a written quote WALK AWAY there are others who will comply and the customer has a chance to make an informed decision .

Over the last 10 years (2016), I have found Alan Marsh of Gunnedah Diesel Service to be very experienced in the repair of all types of petrol and diesel vehicles & machinery. However, I can understand the seemingly high cost of a single repair when not seeing the big picture. Yet, when one looks at the “track record” of a reputable business , (especially with unchanged management), such as Gunnedah Diesel Service, each individual experience is a part of its overall positive reputation.

My experience: On 23rd Sept 2008 I left my Ford Transit diesel (odometer - 141,693km) with Gunnedah Diesel Service for various engine repairs. Since then I have often asked Alan to professionally diagnose some stubbornly elusive faults. For the last 10 years I have personally experienced how Gunnedah Diesel Service actively endeavours to save their customer’s money. Yet at the same time, Alan never lets me remain uninformed about any existing or potential hidden problems that could impact on the reliability of my Ford Transit. He always gives me all of the relevant facts along with various options so that I may decide on the priority of needed repairs. This is extremely helpful to me because since I have been performing most of my own mechanical repairs (on my various vehicles) since 1977, I understand the logic and honesty in his clear explanations. My technical knowledge (about my vehicles) thus learned from Alan, has greatly benefited my ability to manage maintenance on our fleet of 3 vehicles. In fact I consider his explanations as being worth $100s (i.e. if I had to pay for it elsewhere).

    • Communication - Alan clearly explains related problems (that are causing or caused by) current vehicle faults.

GGDS also charge an " environmental fee" of 2 percent on all parts and labour plus gst when questioned they replied blame the government this is not what the MTA said.
  • Lauren

    • Conscientiousness - He looks [from the customer’s point of view] at the consequences of how he does what he does, not just looking at the problem at hand, in isolation.

After waiting 2 weeks in July and paying $18800 with the repeated threat that no payment no car I have been left with the feeling that I have been grossly overcharged both for parts and labour with absolutely no options when the engine is in pieces on the shop floor.

Example: In 2009 when our Transit remained in “limp mode” for some weeks and was unable to travel more than 80kph! After spending some hours inspecting the vehicle, the Ford dealer in Tamworth subsequently advised us to spend $3,000 plus labour to replace the whole diesel injection pump. However, Alan (Gunnedah Diesel Service) simply replaced the “shut-off plunger” inside the injection pump, which completely fixed the problem! I then realised that Alans expertise and experience with diesel injection pump repairs and overhaul is hard to beat. In fact, I doubt whether this 1999 model Transit van (now with 220,500km) would be still on-the-road (serviceable) if it wasn’t for Alan’s on-going excellent vehicle repair-skills.
